This is a four step process.
- Measuring Magnetic Tape and Channel Framing.
- Ordering Magnetic Tape and Channel Framing.
- Measuring for Acrylic/Plexiglas after installing Magnetic Tape and Channel Framing.
- Ordering Acrylic/Plexiglas.
Step 1
Calculate Magnetic Tape and Channel Framing requirements.
- Measure edge to edge on the inside of the frame to calculate the perimeter (height + width x 2).
- If the magnetic tape and channel framing is to go directly on the glass (good for opening windows and sliding doors) then use these measurements.
- If the magnetic tape and channel framing is to go on the frame surrounding the glass (all fixed windows and most opening windows in wooden frames), then add 30mm to the height.
- It is always best to support the bottom horizontal to prevent gravity sheer. When the channel framing is on the glass it is supported by the window frame. For fixed windows it is best to extend the vertical so that the bottom horizontal rests on the window sill. When this occurs add the extra mm from the bottom of the window frame to the window sill.
Step 2
Ordering Magnetic Tape and Channel Framing.
Available lengths and ordering quantities
- Magnetic tape comes in A&B pairs and in 30 metres rolls, 10 metre lengths, 5 metre lengths and metre lengths (1-4m). The price per metre decreases as the quantity ordered increases.
- Framing comes in 2.4 metre lengths.
Order Example for Magnetic Tape and Channel Framing (window measurements 1200mmx800mm).
Note: measurements are in millimetres(mm), orders are in metres(m).
- Order 5 metres of A&B Magnetic Tape (4-5 metres required)
- Order 2 x 2.4 metre lengths of channel framing (1250mmH + 800mmW X 2)
Note: Significant savings can be made by ordering for multiple windows as 30 metre rolls are cheaper and channel framing off-cuts can be use for other windows.
Choosing width size of Magnetic Tape & Channel Framing.
There are two width sizes to choose from – 9.5mm tape (10.5mm frame) and 12.7mm tape (13.5mm frame). As a general guideline if the height + width is less than 2 metres then the narrower tape/frame can be used (especially when adhered to glass in aluminium frames) and when more than 2 metres the wider 12.5mm tape/13.5mm frame should be used.
Step 3
Measuring for Plexiglas
The measurements should be taken once the empty channel framing is in place, the measurements being from outside edge of the channel framing to the outside edge on the opposite side for both vertical and horizontal sides. Note: measurements are to be in millimetres(mm).
Step 4
Ordering Plexiglas (acrylic)
These measurements should be sent to HouseHealth who will then order the correct size of Plexiglas. The Plexiglas ordered by HouseHealth will be less 7mm for the narrower frame and less 10mm for the wider frame, for both vertical and horizontal. This reduction in size allows for expansion and contraction of the Plexiglas within the channel framing.
