Tape and Frame Installation
Clean and dry around the frame where the tape is to go. Start at the top right corner and adhere the small guide strip horizontally so it is flush with the vertical upright of the frame (fig below left). Repeat at the bottom horizontal with the other guide strip. Add primer to the surface of the frame where the vertical strips are to go. Starting with the vertical strip, peel the protective cover from the ‘A’ tape (fig below right).
Place along the edge of the frame starting in one corner and at right angles and flush to the guide strips (fig below left). Press firmly with thumb or roller to ensure a good initial bond. Repeat the procedure for the left vertical strip. Now do the same for the horizontal strips. Cut the excesses in a straight line (fig below right).
This will result in a tape rectangle with neat right angle corners (fig below left). Take the ‘B’ tape and align magnetic face down to the glued ‘A’ tape on all four sides (fig below right). Cut off the excess tape.
Adding The Channel Frames
The 3M adhesive primer must be used on the channel frames prior to fixing the B magnetic strip. To apply, use the cloth over a finger and tilt bottle to absorb some primer. Apply immediately by running finger covered by cloth over surface where strip is to be adhered (fig below left – channel frame & fig below right – window frame).
Begin with the vertical pieces. Remove the protective adhesive cover from the B tape as you adhere to the channel frame. Starting at one end adhere the tape so that it is flush to the edge that does not have the opening (fig below left). Note that there is about a 1 mm space from the magnetic tape to the edge that has the opening. This is the exact measurement required. Cut the frame using a Stanley type knife or good quality snips (fig below right). Once the tape has been adhered to the two vertical pieces of frame, snap them onto the A tape that has been adhered around the window. Repeat the above process for the two horizontals. The horizontals may need an extra small piece cut off to be able to fit between the verticals. Once the frames are in place they should form a flush picture frame.
Measuring for Plexiglas order
Once the channel frame is in place around the window take the vertical and horizontal measurements from the outside edge of the channel frame to the opposite outside edge. These are the measurements that are supplied to HouseHealth so that the correct adjusted measurements (to allow for expansion) are ordered from the supplier.
Putting the Acrylic into the Channel Frames:
There are plastic protective coverings on the acrylic. One side is clear the other is not. Remove the clear covering first and lay on a smooth protected table surface so you don’t mark the acrylic. Handle carefully and avoid touching the surface with your hands as this will leave prints. This side will be closest to the window glass when fitted. Partially remove the printed plastic protective cover around the edges of the acrylic so the channel frames can added. Fit the four frame pieces around the acrylic (figs below). Make sure that the top, bottom, left and right channels are put on the correct sides of the acrylic.
Ensure the bottom horizontal and the left vertical are pushed tightly into the frame. The top horizontal and right vertical should be aligned flush to the left and bottom frames that are already fitted. This should leave a gap in the top and right vertical channels of about 5mm in each. This will allow for expansion and contraction of the acrylic.
Fitting the framed Acrylic onto window:
Start in the bottom left corner and let the bottom and left vertical snap into place (fig below left). The whole frame should now snap onto the magnetic strips surrounding the windows. The channel frame can be moved in and out using your fingers so an exact alignment can be made (fig below right).
